Week 6 Blog Posts

Here are some ideas for your next blog post below. Feel free to post something on your own (which I noticed some of you have) or feel free to respond to the prompts below (pick one):
  • What can you learn about Nikki Grimes through internet research? Post any interesting resources in a blog entry.
  • Contribute a response to "How is blogging going?" by 6 pm the night before class (see ideas below)
You might write about:
  • What you find valuable about our use of blogs
  • What you find to be limiting or frustrating
  • How you can imagine using blogs in the future
  • Questions you have about the blogs
  • Ideas for mini-lessons/discussions we might have in class

I find the blogging to be going well and I think that they are useful. Blogs are a great way to read other people's ideas about specific subjects. So far, we have been able to communicate through the blogs as a class and respond to questions that have been asked. We are able to read others responses to these questions and get an idea of what other people have responded. We are able to communicate with each other about topics that affect each one of us and express our opinions.
I could see myself using blogging in the future in the classroom. I could post questions and have my students go home, think about the question and post a response any time they need to. I could also have a free blog spot where students are free to write about anything they want. Like a journal. I think this would be appealing to many younger people since they use blogs so much today.

I think that blogs are going pretty well. They are a great way to get a feel for how the rest of the class is thinking and also to broaden my own thinking on some topics. The only thing that becomes frustrating to me is the fact that I am not that great with technology so to me it really just isn't that convenient to do stuff like this but I definitely feel that it is beneficial. This type of technology would be beneficial to use with my future classroom. I would say that it would benefit them for the very reason that it is beneficial with me and this class. It is another resource that kids could get excited about using and at the same time open them up to a completely new way of learning.

You two both make great points about blogs. I like the journaling of blogs as a free spot Sara - this could be great. Ryan, we will work on building your tech skills as the course moves along! Hang in there!

I think that once I actually get into blogging and having conversations with people things will go much better. As of right now it is hard to remember to get on and check the blog, but in the future, I could see the blog as a great resource for students to post stories and things that we might not have time to share in class. The blog could be used as a type of sharing time without taking away as much learning and teaching time from the classroom.
